Letter to Ministry of Home Affairs to Strengthen Medical Emergency Management Plan

Oxfam India reached out to officials from 11 empowered groups which have been formed by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs under the Disaster Management Act 2005 to provide a comprehensive response to the COVID-19 crisis.
To protect and strengthen people’s health rights, we wrote to the empowered group on medical emergency management plan headed by Dr. V Paul, member, NITI Aayog. We urged the group, headed by Dr. Paul, to:
- Ensure availability of affordable healthcare services by private providers
- Ramp up availability of ambulances free of cost
- Keep a check on the availability of essential medicines in remote areas
