Oxfam India engages with youth on ‘Inequality in Education’

Education is the backbone of development through which the socio-economic pillar of any society is strengthened. Future of the next generation depends on what kind of education children receive today. An unequal education system adds to the widespread of the existing inequality in the society. In the wake of growing inequality, it is imperative to raise awareness among the young masses and highlight the root causes of how unequal education can lead to this undesirable situation.

Oxfam India Eduaction campaign

On 30th July 2018, Oxfam India and Dastak Manch organized a photo exhibition on the issue ‘Inequality in Education: with focus on girls education’ in Lucknow. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ms Lalita Pandey, Upper Education Director; Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan along with Upma Chaurvedi, Awadh Girls’ Degree College and Ms Diya Badges; Principle, My School. Even amidst heavy rain in Lucknow, 100 + youth from different colleges of Lucknow attended the photo exhibition.

Oxfam India Education Campaign

Prior to the exhibition, around 15 students from various universities in Lucknow collected photographs from schools and villages in Raebareli, Lucknow and Banda. They also wrote blogs narrating their experience on ‘Inequality in Education’ especially on the challenges faced by girls and prepared posters on the same. Students were oriented on the existence of inequality in education in India and the struggle girls face in pursuing education, with lack of resources and teachers as also domestic violence.

Oxfam India Education campaign

The objective was to engage youth to help them develop perspective on ‘Inequality in Education’ and generate discussion on the existing education gap which is a grave threat to the socio-economic fabric of the society.
